Three days in San Francisco
Hi, I will be in San Francisco for 3 days in April and I would like recommendations for reasonable hotels in a safe area where I can easily access public transportation. I also would like to know what neighborhoods are must see. I like old architecture and quaint different shops. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

We stayed at the crown plaza downtown, right next to the streetcar, easy to walk and get around.
We loved Cow Hollow, shops and bars, and the wharf of course. You can also rent bikes if you get a warm day and ride over the Golden gate bridge into Sausalito and Tiberon!

San Francisco City Guides is sponsored by the Public Library and offers over 30 different free walking tours each month. Most are architecture & neigh borhood oriented. Haight/Ashbury, Pacific Heights Mansions, Victorian San Francisco, Landmark Victorians of Alamo Square, Art Deco Marina, Castro, Inner Sunset, Japantown, Chinatown, Mission Dolores Neighborhood, Palace Hotel, Cityscapes & Public Places, Nob Hill, North Beach, just to name a few; See:

Cow Hollow is the Union St area - Union from about Lombard to Divisadero & a few blocks south, & all the way to the Bay to the north. The northern section is also referred to as the Marina area, but much of it is land fill, and was not there when Cow Hollow was a dairy area. It's pretty much a "neighborhood" area now, except for Lombard which is loaded with motels & other commerce. Union St is one of our most popular shopping areas, and so is Chestnut St. There are many many restaurants, cafes, etc on these two streets (& Fillmore also).
