Thomasville GA info?

I'm interested in spending a week in the Thomasville GA area. We like art, antiques, interesting architecture. We enjoy being able to walk around (rather than spending whole days in the car) but would drive a couple of hours for a day trip to someplace nearby. Our ideal trip was to Savannah where we stayed in the middle of the historic district, walking through the residential neighborhoods and along the river during the day and in the evening, making daytrips to a plantation, the town of Thunderbolt, etc. Fodor's is such a wonderful source of first-hand info. Has anyone out there spent any time around Thomasville?
Thanx.

Thomasville is a neat small town, but I cannot imagine spending an entire wek there. If you are interested in the beach, you won't be too far from northwest Florida. But if you just want to see art, antiques, and interesting architecture, you'll have to get in your car and drive to Tallahassee,FL, or Valdosta, GA.

Hi Anna: thanx for the input. If you know the area, would you suggest a few nights in Thomasville, then maybe a couple of days each in some somewhat nearby towns, like Havana Florida, Apalachicola Florida, etc? What's Tallahassee like? Grateful for any advice.

You won't even need a full day in Havana. If you go to Havana, a friend of mine suggests eating at Nicholson Farms. In Appalachicola, visit the Gibson Inn. There are some outlet stores just south of Valdosta on I-75. Suggest you stay in Tallahasse as a home base, as all the locations are within an hour. you may want to spend a night in Eufaula, AL, which is about 3 to 4 hours from Tallahassee. There are some lovely hones in Eufaula. let me warn you in as you are not familiar with theses small towns, they are nothing like Savannah or Charleston. These towns have their own charm, but the historic district is much, much smaller, and I cannot imagine spending more than one day in each location.

I agree that a couple days in Thomasville is probably more than enough. I would spend some time in Havana and Tallahasse (no more than a day or two) and hop in the car and head to Apalachicola or better yet, St. George Island. St. George Island is a beautiful place. Beautiful white sand beaches and not too overdeveloped. Apalachicola is nice too, a picture perfect town and great seafood. There are really some gems in North Florida (or South Georgia, as some say) and A'cola and St. George Island shouldn't be missed.

Anna & Sabrina: thanx for the advice. It's hard to tell how interesting a place is based on its website which, if they were to be believed, indicate weeks wouldn't be enough!
