Thinking of running away
It's really hard to get my man out of town for anything-- the only place he'll consider is Las Vegas (we live in LA). I have a small window of opportunity to get away from work for 2 days while my boss is out of town and thinking of going to Maui alone. I'm 42, not that it matters -- I used to travel alone all the time -- 29 times to Paris -- 12 to London. Now I never go anywhere, waiting for him to say yes. Looking for that perfect romantic weekend away. Enough background.
I give up. Need a trip now. Sort of limited on funds -- but can manage for 3 or 4 days. Wondering how far is Kanaapali Beach from the Grand Wailea Hotel (thinking the Day Spa a good way to go -- but hotel is too expense for stay) and how far are they from the airport? Not big on driving alot. Is there other transportation from airport?
I'm thinking of leaving on June 19, returning the 22. Any ideas on lovely but lower cost accommodations?
Need escape soon. Thanks for any and all advice.

Maui for one day?? LOL...you must REALLY need to get away!! *S*..anyhow to answer your question, the Wailea is about 45 mins to a hour from Kaanapali..and about 45 mins from the airport..for some cheaper hotels look at United Vacations web site..they have a list of hotels and there prices..

Hey Cindy, We're the same age, never been to Paris but like short hops. Consider deducting ten hours flight time plus pre and post travel from your three days and it's not much time. Have you thought about using your flight cost and spending it on a really nice hotel in palm springs and enjoying the spas there? Shopping, sunning and spoiling are all available in a short drive from L.A..Or how about newport beach and balboa island. It's not Hawaii true but relaxing in a great place can put you anywhere your mind lets you wander.

Dear Karyn & Diane:
Today, to tell the truth, I am confused and unsure (not to mention more desperate than yesterday to get away) There's so many places to go in CA -- it's hard to choose. And I don't want to drive there alone (like Palm Springs, etc.) I welcome all suggestions, and thanks for taking the time -- it's appreciated.

Go to Lake Tahoe! There's a youth hostel there, so it should be cheap and even fun if you are alone. You can fly into Reno and take a train or bus to the Lake.
Tahoe is incredibly beautiful. My never-go-anywhere man and I had a very romantic weekend there.

Thank you all for your suggestions. And I know those would all be great places to go. Had my heart set on Maui. Finally found a travel agent w/ fare of $455. (incredible) I decided to go Sun returning Wed. I know not much time, but it's so relaxing. Although now I'm really nervous about flying. Used to never be... oh well.
