I have absolutely no idea how much this is, but this is the place I mentioned on Newbury St and a link - it may be too high end for a 13 yr old, but I thought I'd pass it along -

This is the bead store my daughter used to enjoy - maybe there is a short one hour class while you are in town, or you can just go in, buy the beads and materials and do it their or in the hotel at night - they have a location on Newbury and in Cambridge

and then click on 'stores' to see the inside/locations
The other clothing stores my nieces like aside from Garment District is OOna's in Cambridge and on Newbury St Second Time Around and the Closet
everything from designer to store brands to 50's to 90's depending on which store and what is in

I also did really like Sturbridge, but at the time, our group all thought it would appeal a bit less to kids.
If you do decide to go to the Gardner Museum, you might have your daughter look up all the history of the museum...check out the stipulations Mrs. Gardner left in her will about Harvard, as well as the terrible art theft.
I felt like I was at Miss Havisham's.

To all of you who replied to this post--THANK YOU!! We had a great time in Boston, and the only complain (besides the bitterly cold wind!) was that we didn't have enough time. My daughter loved the science museum and the Skywalk Observatory. She even enjoyed the Freedom Trail~we broke it up and didn't do all of it in order, but she was able to put it all together later. Adnil~Mike's Pastries had the best cannoli, great tip! We had a fabulous dinner at Legal Sea Food (my brother is a chef and wholeheartedly approved of the fare). I've kept all of these suggestions and will do the things we didn't get to do on our next trip to Boston! Thanks again for all of the wonderful suggestions!

The weather was unpleasant for all but one day, but I live in the mountains of Northern California, so my daughter and I are used to rain and snow. We also discovered Gigi's Gelateria on Hanover Street. The grapefruit gelato was on par with the blackberry gelato we had in Rome!
