THEhotel at Mandalay Bay

Does anyone have any information about this new hotel? We're going to be in town the second week in January and have enjoyed the original MB. The website looks pretty tempting, with all-suites (750 sq ft) and plasma TV it sounds pretty swanky. It would run about $275 when we'll be there. The same time period has rooms at the Venetian for $700, the Bellagio at about the same, Caesars at something so silly I forgot what it was and the Four Seasons having no room at the inn.

I'm inclined to give it a try, but I'm a bit hesitant to stay in a hotel that just opened within the month. If they are still doing construction, it would annoy me greatly. Does anyone have insight into the status of the place? Is it still set to open this week?

I've been wondering about this place, too! For the price, sounds like this may be the best you'll get in Vegas during your time period. How bad can brand new be?
Please give us your review if you do go-- thanks!

If I can't find any information soon, I'll probably take a chance on this place and report back.

Was in MB Thanksgiving week and they are currently showcasing the model room/suite at the lobby leading to the Shark Reef exhibit area- did not pay much attention to a lot of details but it certainly looks very swank/modern lines- all marble bath. It could probably be worth the money. It looks like the construction is still going on at the high-rise at the back of the existing one so we are wondering if you get a good view from there of the strip also.

I am also interested in this hotel but I have on emajor concern. How far away is it from the hotel and all its ammenities (esp. the pool)? I heard you have to walk throught the casino, etc, etc, just to get to the pool. We have kids. Is it really a far walk from THEhotel to the pool, shark reef, restaurants, etc?

You have to walk through the casino to get anywhere in Vegas. MB is especially like that with check-in, the pool, shark reef and the restaurants in respective corners and the elevator near the middle. Elevator to pool sorta skirts the outside of the casino, but if I remember correctly, getting to shark reef, the restaurants and the passge to Luxor requires going through much of the casino.

I've stayed at MB about 4 or 5 times and have gambled there. Have gotten some decent offers to stay in The Hotel during January, better than what you've been quoted. You can probably get a better rate there if you check around. Have stayed in one-bedroom suite at MB and was impressed, so with all the extra amenities, I'm guessing that The Hotel will be even better.

We're staying at THEhotel in March for the NCAA's first two rounds.
Room rate: $169.
Rooms are 750 sq. ft. with 42" plasma screen TV's, completely separate living room/bedroom (unlike Venetian), and separate pool and health club available for THEhotel guests (in addition to access to the main pool system).

I have it on word from a friend who works in the casino industry in LV that the rooms at THEhotel are no better than the rooms in the main hotel in terms of quality. Just larger.
Much like the Venezia Tower at Venetian. The rooms aren't really much nicer, just separate entry/concierge, plasma TV's and not much else.

But for $169 during one of the busiest weekends of the year in LV, THEhotel's a major bargain IMO.
