Scranton PA? I've never been there but I've been to nearby Binghamton, NY. If Scranton is anything like Binghamton I can understand why you listed it.

No doubt about it:
Bakersfield, CA
Cumberland, MD
Bilouxi, MS
Gary, IN
Youngstown, OH

Not fit for habitation, IMHO, and all for different reasons.

Huntsville, Alabama. This place serves no purpose except to perpetuate ignorance and hypocrisy in the name of Jesus. I was taught that Jesus loves everybody but not in Huntsville, Alabama he only loves a select few....The absolute worst place in America to live.

Olympia, WA.

Cons: rain, cold, slow pace, boring, 2-3 months of sunshine, you need to drive 30 minutes to Tacoma or an hour to Seattle for good food, and good entertainment.

Pros: clean, fresh air, nice people, nice library, parks and outdoor stuff.

It's OK for now but I look forward to living in a city with more to do, sunshine and faster pace.

C'mon people. Stick to the subject. We're suposed to be thinking of the worst. Not the pretty bad. Not the city you feel like whining about. Does anyone
really feel Denver or Dallas should be THE worst? Let's talk about, Gary, East St. Louis, Flint, etc...

Add my vote for Seattle. It is hugely overated.

I see that virtually everyone who knocks Seattle uses the word "overrated" as the reason why it is a terrible place to live. Overrated on what scale? Compared to where? Does its being "overrated" make it a bad place to live? There are tons of places I have visited and/or lived listed in this thread, and I can tell you that for many people, myself included, seattle has the best combinations of factors to make a "livable" city. And who's knocking Vancouver B.C.? By far the most beautiful city in North America. If you want alist of cities that blow, It'd have to be confined to areas with a population of 1 mil or more. There are simply too many places across this country to reach consensus. But how bout the worst?
1. Houston-Hot, crowded, population slaved to automobiles (and worship automobiles), flat, unhealthy (recently awarded fattest city in US) racist, classist. The worst America has to offer.
2. Atlanta-Just like Houston but with a few more trees, parks, and hills.
3. D.C./Northern Va.-Hot in summer, freezing in winter, traffic, expensive, unbelievably hostile.
4. pretty much anywhere else east of the west coast.

SCRANTON PA IS A PRETTY PATHETIC TOWN BUT SO IS NEARBY READING. GO DOWN SOUTH ABOUT 45MIN AND YOU'LL HIT LANCASTER WHICH IS BORING BUT BEAUTIFUL. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT GO WEST 10MILES TO COLUMBIA PA-IT IS A HAVEN FOR '80S HAIR AND REMARKABLY STUPID PEOPLE-I HAD THE DISTINCT DISPLEASURE OF HAVING TO DEAL WITH THEM FOR 3YRS!

The one city I have visited that I swore I could never like living in is Philadelphia. I know it has its strong points, like parks and museums, but it always struck me as very congested and very dirty.

Second place is Baltimore - though I do enjoy visiting, especially the harbor area, I could never live there. Too run down and dirty.

Anyplace is New England is my fave place to live. =)

San Francisco (small city, and cold summers) New Orleans (great place to visit but not to live. Nothing but an alligator swamp).

I agree with J from awhile back about Houston & DC/NOVA.

Both are hideous places for different reasons.

"Unbelievably hostile" is exactly right about DC/NOVA.

What a stupid question and thread!!!

Now that you have every place in the world listed where are you?

Truth is that most people stay in the area they were born in unless forced to move for a job. They then tell all the other people living there what a great place this is. Otherwise there would be no Detroit, Flint or Toledo. Why would anyone move there unless they were born there?

Nuff said.....stupid thread.
