The New York "Soup Natzi"

I appologize for the title... but I knew that most of you would know what I meant by that.

Does anyone know where the famous soup place is in NYC? (the one mentioned on Seinfeld)

It is at 259 West 55th Street. Check: http://www.therealsoupman.com/. And by the way, the soup really is fantastic.

Th original guy parodied on Seinfeld owned Soup Kitchen International, on 55th street. He closed that location about a year ago and is now involved in a venture to open "thousands" of locations of his empire. As far as I know, his only current location is in NYC in the area btween Times Square and Grand Central (can't remember the exact location on 42nd street). There were huge lines there when it originally opened, not so much anymore

Is it still open? I bought some of their wonderful soup and brought it home to my husband one year when I was in NYC. I hand carried it on the plane from New York all the way to the West Indies. He LOVED it, by the way.

The original location is CLOSED.
It seems there are several locations (plus some in the works) of the "new" name

Mostly I'm hearing that it's a pale imitation of the original

michelleNYC,

That would be "Soup Nazi."

(When correcting others, it's best to punctuate correctly.)

AnnMarie, those were my exact words. A couple of years ago I was in NY with a friend. We went out of our way to locate the soup kitchen, only to find it was closed.

NO SOUP FOR ME!!

Menlo Park Mall in NJ.

Supposedly they still throw out the soup at the end of the day and make it fresh each morning (I'd challenge any other restaurant on that!).
