The Breakers in West Palm - need advice

My husband & I were thinking about staying at the Breakers in West Palm in June. We have a 2 year old son who will be with us. I have a few questions about this hotel;

1. Are children my son’s age allowed in all of the pools? The hotel web site says there are “three (3) oceanside pools - lap pool, main pool and children's pool, and whirlpool spa.”
This makes me think there is only 1 pool for children the “children’s pool” Can anyone verify this for me?

Also, would you call this a kid-friendle hotel? or should we look elsewhere

2. How formal is this place in terms of dress code? I had heard other comments that said gentlemen no longer have to wear ties in the evening. My husband will not even pack a tie!! Are there casual dining options? (Can a man wear shorts & a polo shirt to dinner anywhere in the Breakers?) Are shorts allowed in the lobby? My husband likes to dress casual, I want to make sure he can or I might have to pick another hotel.

3. My son still drinks bottled milk, can you keep baby bottles in the mini-fridge in the room??

I really appreciate any advice,
Marina

My husband and I stayed at the Breakers for a conference last year. I did not notice the pools, but I do know that "resort casual" is appropriate for most areas. Like with other resorts that are tying to keep some "tone" they frown on jeans, but khaki shorts and a collared shirt would be fine.

This is a beautiful place and seemed to be kid friendly. The service is wonderful--you feel very special!

I'd have him throw a sportscoat in the suitcase just in case. Palm Beach can be a dressy place.

I think if there is a children's pool that you should probably take your son to that pool.

I think the Ritz-Carlton and Boca Raton Resort and Club are much more kid friendly but being that your son is only two, he may be too young for kids clubs so that wouldn't matter.

Yes, shorts are allowed in the lobby.

Overall I think you'll enjoy your stay. Don't overthink it and remember, your son will have a much better time on the beach than at the pool.

oops - also forgot to ask, do they have those "cabinettas" sun shades or umbrellas available at the beach?

Oceanmarina, I have been to The Breakers every year now for 5 years. We always go in April and have never had a bad experience there! It is such a fabulous resort and VERY kid friendly!! We always see lots of kids there and they definitely cater to them. First off, just the lap pool and the quiet pool way at the end are not open to children. The main pool is great overlooking the ocean and it has a lifeguard. There are always lots of kids there. And there are umbrellas on the beach as well as cabanas for rent around the pools.

They also have an Italian restaurant that is designed with families in mind. There's a supervised play area behind a glass wall where your kids can play while you have a casual dinner. There is also a hedge maze outside that children love as well as a playground. Over by the shopping arcade there is a huge lawn where we always see children burning off steam running around and playing.

You see people wearing everything from evening gowns to jogging suits these days. Jackets are only "suggested" in the high-end restaurant L'Escalier. There are 2 casual restaurants in addition to the Italian one. A new one called The Ocean Grill is out by the pool and The Seafood Bar is in the back on the right side of the main building overlooking the ocean.

I'm not sure about refridgerators, but, I bet they're available due to the high numbers of children and babies we see there.

We have been to The Ritz and The Four Seasons in the Palm Beach area and I would take my children to The Breakers over those any time!

We don't bring our children when we go, but, as as long as they are somewhat well-behaved it will be a great experience for all of you. I think it's one of most unique grande dame hotels left in America. (I sound like a walking advertisement!) Have fun!

If you can arrange for a babysitter one night, go to Flagler's Steak House at The Breaker's Golf Clubhouse across the street from the hotel. Casual slacks and a button-down shirt would be very appropriate though many men wore jackets with no tie. For family dining go to Testa's about two blocks from the hotel.
