Thanksgiving Weekend

Any suggestions for a four day get-away over
Thanksgiving weekend? My mom and I were planning to go to NYC, but have decided to postpone NY until the summer (for obvious reasons). I live near Pittsburgh and am looking for a nice place with lots to do, will fly, but would like to stay in Eastern US or Canada. Thanks
God Bless America

It might not seem like a likely Thanksgiving destination, but my daughter and I spent last Thanksgiving in Las Vegas. It was her first trip there and we had a ball. We stayed at New York New York and saw two shows (Sigfried & Roy and Cirque de Sol Mystere). It was a great trip even though it was my first Thanksgiving without turkey and all the trimmings. The restaurants were offering the traditional dinners, but we opted to go with a non-traditional meal. One of the best things about Vegas is that the trips are usually very affordably priced.

New York will be a place to be - especially with the patriotic spirit.

If they don't stop the Macy's parade, it will become a symbol for New York City's Resilience and one of the first major National events. There is always heavy police and FDNY participation. I am sure the spirit of the Good Old USA and the Stars and Stripes will be a one-time event not to miss.

I too have reservations for NYC for a full week around Thanksgiving. I have paid for an apartment and have about $2500 worth of theatre tickets paid for. We truly want to spend our holiday in New York. I know it is still very early to say how the city will be healing at that point. However, I strongly feel that this year's holiday season should be celebrated as no other has been. While this tragedy has hit our country right in the heart, there is still so much to be thankful for. We still have our freedom and the most desirable living conditions in the world.

I live in Washington DC and go elsewhere for my weekend to get away -- I go to Mexico/Caribbean for the tropical climate and cheap rates as that's their low season. I did do NYC one year and had a good time seeing shows etc but one drawback is that that is a very expensive time to be in NY, the hotels raise their rates almost 100 pct (in my experience, a regular $175 room was $275 and I checked around a lot, many seemed to do that, at least in theater district). Who knows this year. In any case, I will offer my city, Washington DC, as a very good alternative for you. The weather is usually fairly moderate, there is lots to do here and a lot of the nicer restaurants and hotels have cheap and great Thanksgiving dinner buffets (all types of cuisines), and I think room rates are reasonable here (or even low) that weekend. All museums are open on those holidays and you can drive here from Pittsburgh (I do it often, going there as I have relatives) in only about 5 hours. The best route with great roads and better traffic than roads in Pennsylvania is to go south down to Morgantown WV and then east across Maryland panhandle. We've had a lot of sadness here also but not the destruction of NY. We also have lots of good theater and concerts.
