We are looking for a Thanksgiving week destination in the USA!
What do you recommend for a beautiful, peaceful yet not boring (not NYC,etc.), mild weather place to go? We have no extended family; we need a place to occupy the time and fill the senses...

I think one of the resorts in South East might be nice - Wintergreen (VA) or Grove Park Inn (NC), alternatively this is a nice time of year to be in Charleston. Sometimes it is a bit rainy but the weather is usually pretty mild, same for Savannah.

I agree with Leah. All would be nice. I think Charleston offers the most.

Mapa Wine Country/San Francisco

Wine Country to celebrate T Day....we had an unforgetable BBQed traditional Turkey in a wine brine and eatting AL fresco with Napas wonderful fall harvest. (Can't guarenttee the weather but we have done this several times.)

Then off to SaN fran for the Saturday after TDay for Christmas shoppimg. Stay at either at the Hyatt Union Square ..see the wonderful Christams windows and shop

Are you open to the entire US? If you're looking for east coast, then surely Charlestown is a great choice.

California would be great, Napa or Sonoma counties would be lovely.

How about the Grand Canyon? Sedona or Oak Creek Canyon in AZ.

Santa Fe or Taos, in New Mexico?

I agree with Tuscan. The SW would be wonderful. I spent Thanksgiving in New Mexico a few years ago. Santa Fe or Taos and surrounding area would be very nice. It may be cold - but it would be beautiful.

Flying into Phoenix for a Sedona/ South Rim of Grand Canyon would be wonderful too.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I've never thought of the windows decorated for Christmas as a San Francisco concept; very interesting! And right now, at 104 degrees day after day after day, cold sounds pretty good.

What are the scenic and recreational differences between Sedona and Santa Fe/Taos? We've not been to any of those.

And, yes, the entire USA is being considered.
