Thanksgiving drive MD to NY

Hi, I'm driving today from Maryland to Staten Island, NY and expect a long drive. I once took a route that went via 301 into Delaware, but don't remember the route nor can I get in touch with the person who told me the route initially. Can anyone help me out with the directions? Thank you

Go to Mapquest. Type in MD as your starting point and Staten Island, NY as your destination. The route calculated will be from Baltimore, but you can very clearly see the route through DE on 301.

Where do you start from in Maryland? I95 can be rough, especially at the tolls. 301 will work but is out of the way if leaving from around Baltimore. Rt 40 can be a good alternative to 95. It is about a mile east of 95. Follow 40 for 60 miles or so and follow signs to Deleware Bridge. When exiting the Deleware Bridge, stay to your right and take 295. It splits a few times a bit past the 18 mile marker so be sure to stay on 295- at the splits you will want to be in the right lane otherwise you will find yourself in Philly. Take 295 to exit 56 in the direction of Fort Dix. Turn right at the top of the ramp and go to the "T." Taking a left at the "T" will put you onto the Jersey Turnpike at exit 7 after a couple of hundred yards. Go north on the JT. Note, You will see two gas stations on your left when you make that left turn. These are likely to have the least expensive gas that you will find the entire trip. One doubles as a truck stop and has a decent Wendy's and other goodies in the store.

In the end however, I don't think that you can avoid heavy traffic altogether.

I have made this trip maybe 100 times in my lifetime. At no time did we not hit some traffic somewhere! Best of luck. Basingstoke2 gave you good advice.

Thank you so much basingstoke2. This is exactly the route I was looking for!!! I know that we will be in some traffic, but at least not the 95N traffic. Thanks so much and have a happy thanksgiving to everyone!
