ok, Seal Beach is really quite small (thats why I asked) Best way to see it is by walking-the main street runs from Pacific coast highway to the beach. Spent every summer on that beach in my youth. No earh shattering sights, just a cute beach town.

Seal Beach is a small beach town just south of Long Beach. Houses cover the entire beach frontage. There is a pier at that location. I don't think you will find a place to stay on the beach unless you are staying with friends. If you are looking for a B&B you might check out http://sealbeachinn.com. Without question you need a rental car to get around. Nearby you can visit the Queen Mary in Long Beach if it is still there. You can find just about anything you want within a radius of 50 miles and much traffic. Since you like beaches you should explore the coast south through Newport Beach and Laguna Beach.

Just south of town, also on the Pacific Coast Highway, is Bolsa Chica State Park. It is a beautiful, wide open state park. There is overnight RV parking available there and plenty of fire rings. Also lots of showers to wash off the sand, changing rooms, snack bars, rental places for bikes or inline skates to ride on the boardwalk. Mostly there is the beautiful beach, miles of open sand. This is the beach I go to often every summer (I live half an hour inland). Accross the highway from the sand is a large wetland. It is full of birds with lots of hiking trails.

Further south of Seal Beach is the popular surfing area of Huntington Beach pier, and Balboa Peninsula, both interesting areas. There is a dog beach just north of Huntington.

Just north of Seal Beach is a Marina, with lots of great restaurants, like Chart House and Rusty Pelican.

There should be lots of motels around, if not right there then just north up the coast. You will want a rental car. A little north is Long Beach, with the Queen Mary. L.B. is a pleasant, open city. At the base of Pine Street you can catch the Blue Line, taking you right into Union Station in Los Angeles, and near many attractions. Also in Long Beach is Seaport Village, a popular harborside shopping and dining area. I think you can still take speedy passenger boats from there 26 miles accross the sea, to Catalina. Check the yellow pages. Accross the harbor is Ports of Call. You can take interesting harbor cruises there.

Hope you have a fun time, this can be a really fun place!

Yes, you can take hydrofoils or slower boats to Catalina from Long Beach harbor. The Seal Beach Inn is a small charming and expensive B&B right in Seal Beach. As far as beaches go, the more southern beaches in Orange County have very beautiful coastlines. I would stay one night in Seal Beach and drive on down to Laguna for 1 or 2 more.

PS: Seal Beach is an extremely windy beach. Not good for laying out, but one of the premier windsurfing spots. So it depends on what you like...
