Tell me about Davidson, NC, please

I am considering a day trip with some girlfriends. It has been quite some time since my last visit and I would welcome suggestions for lunch and shopping. Thanks.

Many years(about 20) ago I remember stopping at Tom Clark's studio in Davidson. He wasn't there, but we did see his WIP. I believe there is now a Tom Clark museum or maybe Cairn Studios retail outlet.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my questions. Davidson is located a short distance north of Charlotte near Lake Norman. It is home to Davidson College.

Well, there is all the shopping you could ever want at exits 23, 25, and 28 on I77. If you haven't been for a while, it will be eye popping. I don't know much about Davidson's shopping and lunches. Are you coming from Winston?

I would be driving south on I-77 from the I-40 exchange. I visit CLT fairly often to shop. I haven't been to Davidson in about ten years so didn't know what might be new there. I understood it was developed considerably, but still had a small town charm.

It's an itty-bitty college town. There has been some development but they have done a pretty good job of maintaining the town itself, to date. Depending on what you are looking for (?) their may be other places to suggest in & around CLT.

I have previously visited and enjoyed Davidson. At an hour's drive, it seemed like a good day trip. We enjoy speciality shopping and good food. While I appreciate there are many attractions in the Charlotte area, I was interested in Davidson particularly.
Thank you for taking the time to respond.

As san Paris said, they have done a GREAT job of preserving DAvidson per se, but there is some really really good shopping nearby as I mentioned. Davidson hasn't changed a whole lot since DH graduated 50+ years ago.
Birkdale Commons at Exit 25 is a nice galleria style shopping area. I think Cornelius has some nice shops. There is plenty to do in the area.
