Teens at Kea Lani, Maui

I am thinking of staying at the Kea Lani in Maui. I like the idea of a suite but have two concerns... that the Wailea area might be a little too laid back and far from the action (with two teens) and that dining options are somewhat limited and extremely expensive. Comments or suggestions? Thanks!

You're right, I think they'd like the Grand Wailea better. Maui is expensive, no matter what.

Good luck!

Sorry Maui Lover, I must disagree. staed at the grand and found it to be less than grand, other than the greenskeeper who makes this place look great. It is a disney ride for kids younger, unless they want to flirt with the arrogant pool guys. Kea Lani is fabulous. We stay at the 4S next door. The only other consideration would be to stay at a high end resort in Kannappali, but it is way commercial. If I were to take my two neices, Kea Lani definately. They can walk to the other resorts

I agree with the previous message about the grand wailea, it's a zoo. We just stayed at the four seasons and loved it. I have 2 young boys, ages 7 & 9 and we had the greatest time. After visiting the surrounding hotels of the 4s, the kea lani is the only hotel other than the 4s that we would stay at. Your teens would love the kea lani or the four seasons, they are both very family friendly. With regard to your dining concern, there are many dining options in kihue (not sure on spelling), the next town over from wailea.

Hey, I wasn't knocking the Kealani--it's my favorite hands down. However, I don't have kids, and while I've never stayed at the Grand Wailea, it has those great pools which I would think 2 teens would love.

Just trying to offer alternatives

Stayed at Kea Lani 11/02. 2 boys: 12 & 10. Pool is ok . But the beach was way much better. Never got my boys out of the water, expect to eat. Too busy w/ body surfing, diving, snorkeling and just have a great time. Wailea is a great area. Lots to do. Don't worry about food. Many places to pick from. Go explore. We did and had an EXCELLENT time! Expensive depends on where you are living now! The suites are great and wait til you see the bathrooms. You could live in them! Have a great time. We did!
