Tavern on the Green
Just a warning to save your time and money! Dineed there this weekend. I was already leary after warnings on this board, however my mom HAD to go. Well it was a nightmare from the minute we walked in. The food was actually very good. The problem was the waiter overchargin us about $100, in addition he charged us for a soup that we sent bak due to it having a hair in it. When we pointed out these errors he YELLED at me! The enitre dining room was wathcing our table. He never even apologized when it turned out he was in fact wrong.
We short his tip and he cam out into the cab line and caused another scene! The others in the cab line let us know they had the same experience.
Just tdirve by the place, or stop in and use the bathroom. Don't bother eating unless you want to be robbed blind!

To Dineen: It sounds like nycfan went anyway because his/her mother HAD to go. I'm sure we all know how those things are.
To nycfan: Your "shorting" of the tip and consequent waiter reaction brings to mind a question I've often wondered about. When you have really bad service, as in this case (and I don't mean just slightly poor service), are you better off not tipping at all rather than shorting, or leaving a very small tip?
I have a friend who maintains that leaving nothing, (or even something as ridiculous as a quarter) gets the message accross that you were really angry with the disgusting treatment, whereas if you just leave a small tip, the waiter will just think you're cheap, and not connect it with any lack on his/her part. (This assumes you don't also say something to them.) Anybody have any thoughts on that?

Leaving no or little tip just means that you are European.
Tavern on the Green used to be very precise about their waitstaff: a waiter could be fired for not wearing his/her nametag.
With TOTG being such a prestigious restaurant, I would have asked to see the restaurant manager and made a verbal complaint.
