Tall Order for S. Florida Vacation Rental

I am interested in private villa or cottage rentals in South (west or east) FL or the Keys, with the following specifications:

-Two or Three bedrooms and bathrooms

-Not terribly expensive (2 bed/bath under $2500- and 3 bed/bath under $3000, per week, in winter season: Jan.-March)

-Preferably w/ private pool and nice view

-In a safe area which is not overdeveloped. Would like privacy and a degree of seclusion but not total seclusion as I find that scary and too lonely.

-Not more than a short walk away from the water, doesn't have to be a beach, but somewhere where you can walk along the waterfront and sit and take in the view.

-No need for nightlife or special activities although access to tennis would be nice. (Main purpose of vacation is to escape the northeastern winter and relax with family)

-Preferably not more than 45 minutes away by car to a beach which would have few, if any other people at least during off-peak hours and where it would be unlikely to come across nude or topless sunbathers.

I have come across some rentals on Sanibel and Captiva which could be possibilites but of course each has their own pros and cons and I would like to get input from people.

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

My husband and I have fallen in love with the Galleon in Key West. It has fully equipped condos (many are timeshares but with weekly rentals) and has two bedroom units, though I'm not sure about 3 bedrooms. It overlooks the Gulf and/or marina and we just sit out on the balcony and watch the boats come and go. It's very much in the thick of activity - restaurants, etc - but when you're in your condo you'd think you were all alone. As you know, there's really no such thing as a beach in Key West, but this has a wonderful waterfront view. Check out their website...it's the Galleon Resort and Marina. Good luck!

Larry-

Thank you. I actually already discovered your place on Captiva on vacationspot.com. It looks very nice and I am considering it.

Susan- Thank you for all the info., I appreciate it. There are several reasons why I don't think Key West is for me but I will make a note of your suggestion in case it will be of use sometime.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season.
