Sweetwater TN - Lost Sea

Is this worth driving 100 miles out of way to see?

We took our 7 yr old there in Dec and thought he (and we ) thought it was pretty neat. They take you on a guided walk down through the cavern and on a short boat ride on the Lost Sea (2nd largest underground lake in the world). It is pretty eerie when they turn out the lights.

My grandmother lived near there when I was a kid and my father never took me there. My aunt still lives there and has never been. So the locals don't seem to give it much patronage. However, last summer I was traveling from Ohio to Florida with my 2 and 4 year olds and decided to make that a half way point and spend the night. My son (4) absolutely loved it. My opinion was that it is the best underground cavern I've ever been in. It is monstrous on the inside. The boat ride on the lake inside is great. 100 miles out of your way is a lot for any attraction. The tour takes about 1-1 1/2 hours. If you are into educational enlightenment and nature's wonders then I would say yes. But again I can't see how the locals have never been to a place that I think is amazing.

I have been a few times to the Lost Sea. It is a good tour, if you like caverns. It is pretty easy walking, nothing too strenuous. If you have kids, they will love it. I would recommend doing it at least once.

I also agree. 100 miles, no!
50 miles, maybe!
25 miles, yes!

I live about 45 min away and really enjoyed it. We had visitors from Va and they like it also. We would go 50 miles to see it but 100 miles for only that trip would think twice.
