I'm particularly fond of Japonica on University Place. It's medium-expensive and quite good. But no reservations, and I believe they take only Amex.
But there are myriad sushi restaurants in NYC, both good and quite appallingly bad. If you want to find a place in the neighborhood where you are staying, there's probably a really good place within walking distance. It's not necessary to travel for good sushi in NYC.

A very nice Japanese restaurant is Hatsuhana at 48th and Madison. Their sushi is quite expensive, but they also have an interesting dish called, "box of dreams" for around $40. Not cheap but very high quality ingredients with a nice presentation in a great setting. Check out the food gallery on their website for a picture of this dish, http://www.hatsuhana.com/ , something to consider in NYC.

I love this place called Avenue A sushi in the East Village. It's on Avenue A betwen 6th and 7th Street on the west side. They have disco balls inside and a 2 for 1 happy hour till 7 PM. It is totally not expensive and DELICIOUS!!! Best sushi ever.
