There are literally hundreds of great places to eat fresh sushi in Manhattan (for a reasonable price). What neighborhood are you interested in, or even better, what blocks or small area? We'll definitely require more information before we can help you.

Unfortunately, sushi in midtown tends to be more expensive than other areas (as are most midtown restaurants because they cater to tourists and expense accounts). Sushisay on East 51st Street near your hotel is excellent, but it's pricey. Check www.zagat.com for more info about Sushisay. For excellent sushi at a reasonable price, I'd suggest hopping on the uptown 6 train (also near your hotel) and going north a few stops to the Upper East Side, where you'll find Shiki on Third Ave between 87th & 88th or Sushi Hana on Second around 78th.

it's not near your hotel, but Kirara in the west village is my absolute favorite. they take such care and pride in preparing their sushi. the woman who owns the place is wonderful. it can take a little longer to get your meal, but it's worth the wait. it's on carmine street.

A popular reasonably priced place is Haru at 3rd Ave. and 76th ST.

I excluded Haru from my Upper East Side suggestions because in my experience it is much more expensive than the more "neighborhood" establishments such as Sushi Hana & Shiki (and Yu Ka on Second around 82-83). Excellent quality, however.

Yama near Union Square. Doesn't take reservations. Large portions and fresh. Highly recommend.

In the East Village there is a great reasonably priced sushi place called Sandobe (no sign on the outside) on 11th St. between 1st & 2nd Aves. Really inventive rolls, super fresh fish. You will usually see a line outside. It is sort of a neighborhood secret that's getting out. They have a sister restaurant called Jeollado on 4th St. between 1st and 2nd Aves. that's larger and serves Korean food in addition to Sushi. I've been going there since Sandobe was a little sushi bar and it's usually about $20 - 25 a person for lots of sushi and a few Sapporos.
