Support a Family Farm and Have Fun Too!

This is about a farm in southern Vt.,Wilmington ,to be exact.
The farm has been worked by the same family for 6 generations.
It is called the Adam Farm.
A while ago they came up with an idea to keep the farm solvent.
They call it "agritourism"
They have events there such as concerts, hayrides, bonfires, dances, workshops, and ***lots*** of farm animals for children to see, and pet.
They are open 6 days/wk.(closed Tues)
There is an admission charge.
Their number is 802.464.3762
So for all you people out there looking for something to see while in Vt.
GO!
Not only will it be enjoyable, but you can help keep alive a real working, **family** farm.
There are less of them each year that goes by.
Nancy
(Not affiliated with the Adams Farm, just someone who loves Vt.and wants to see it survive)

Nancy,

I love you and enjoy your posts, but isn't this commercial promotion in violation of Fodor's rules? I understand you have no pecuniary interest, but what would this forum be if everybody plugged their pet venture? If someone posts looking for things to do in this area, you could respond, but I hardly think this sort of thing ought to warrant its own thread.

Remember the first part of this post: I love ya.

XXX,
First of all, let me say I am glad you enjoy my posts.
Second of all, you didn't read my last sentence carefully enough.
I have nothing to do with the Adams Farm **at all**!!
There was an article inour local paper yesterday about the farm re-opening for the season, and I thought it might be of interest.
If you look under the Vermont catogory, you will notice a few requests for things to do while in Vt.(Including one from a mom of young child/ren)
I posted this on Fodor's **only** to add to the info already there.
I also, in previous posts, mentioned the Belle of Brattleboro,The Green Mountain Flyer (a train) and Fort # 4 in Charleston, N.H.
I have no pecuniary interest or any commercial interest in any of them!
Vt. is a lovely state I have called home for 30 yrs. and I just want to let people know about some of the things to do here besides Ben&Jerry's and Woodstock.
Hope this sets your mind at ease ,xxx.

xxx,
Just another thought.
Why should this not have it's own post?
I read things all the time, esp on the Europe site, where people write about wonderful resturants, hotels etc they have been to.
Does that violate the Fodor rule?

The issue is that while most of us who rread these forums regularly recognize that YOU have no financial stake in THIS particular venture, most people who happen onto these forums periodically or for the first time may well spy a post like this and interpret it as an open door with welcome mat out to post ads. Heck, it's hard enough keeping the ad-posters away when NONE of the regulars post such info.
No adversarial tone here, Nancy, only my opinion as to why posts like the original may present a problem.

KB,
See your point.
But I still have a question.
Does not my final sentence ,in my original posting, make it clear I am not affiliated or connected in any way with this family farm?
I thought it did, and that is why I included it, so to avoid it appearing that I was pushing something for a commercial purpose.
Thanks, and goodnight.

Nancy, let me elaborate. Here are the problems I see:

1. There is no indication that you went to this farm and are telling people about it because you personally enjoyed it. That is what this forum is supposed to be about, and that is what those "trip reports" and posts on the Europe board are about. Instead, you seem only to have a psychic or emotional interest in having the farm do well. That is different.

2. If someone posted looking for things to do in Vermont, that was the time to mention this. In fact, you might search for that thread and post this and bring it to the top.

3. Think what a mess we would have if everyone just started threads about whatever establishment they heard of that they hoped would prosper. Why, we would have the Frommer's board, that's what we would have.

4. If I were looking for travel advice about Vermont, I would really, really want someone to tell me about things to do because they are the best things to do. I would not want someone recommending something just because of their socio-political views about which establishments should survive and which should not. Fortunately, you were quite up front on what those views are.

So the issue is not whether you are connected with this establishment or receiving anything in exchange for your endorsement, although that would truly be crass commercial endorsement. But this is definitely commercial promotion, even if for a worthy cause, because you appear to be promoting a for-profit business for reasons other than your personal experience with it, and starting a whole new thread to do it.

Lastly, consider whether a post that can be viewed as commercial promotion would really help the farm. To be honest with you, I despise commercial promotion on this board, and I have been dealing with it in my own way. When I see a commercial post, I post a reply slamming the establishment and raising questions about the ethics of the owners. Why? Well, their ethics are obviously suspect as they are blatantly violating the rules of this board for commercial gain. Also, I hope it will help future violators realize that someone might slam their enterprise if they advertise here, so they will see that an advertising message they ultimately can't control isn't advertising that they want to do. It would be a shame if someone did something like that to the Adam Farm.

Please don't feel like I'm picking on you. Like I said, I think you are a valuable contributor to this forum.

Don't totally agree with your point of view.
Think you are trying to dictate who posts what according to your interpretation of the rule.
But message received and will pay attention to how I post keeping this in mind.

P.S.The part xxx thinks is missing.
We have been to the farm on a yrly basis and have always had a good time, (even as my children get older.)

PPS, the Adams family DOES NOT have anything to do with this posting, so don't penalize them.
