Sunspree or Sheraton?
Hi,
We just moved to VA, and are going to spend some family time in VA Beach in April. We're trying to choose between the Holiday Inn SunSpree, or the Sheraton, both are beachfront, and cost for a suite is similar. We have 2 small kids, so want something with a lot of room. Any recommendations?

We have lived in Va. for 15 years and frequently stay at Va. Beach. I've stayed at both hotels you've mentioned and I prefer the Sunspree- although they are both oceanfront and both nice. You can't go wrong with either.
Last year, I did a survey of suite hotels on the beach (we are a family of 5) If we hadn't stayed there, I stopped by the hotel and asked to see a room. Here's my choices for decent (3 star AAA) oceanfront hotels that offer suites (or all-suite):
* Clarion Resort -5th & Atlantic
* Comfort Inn Oceanfront Suites-20th & Atlantic (this would be my top choice)
* Dolphin Inn
* Holiday Inn Surfside Hotel & Suites-
26th & Atlantic
* Va. Beach Resort Hotel & Conference (more expensive, on the bay, but WOW!)
* Ramada Inn on the Beach -6th& Atlantic
* Holiday Inn Sunspree - 39th & Atlantic
* Marriott Courtyard Oceanfront - 25th & Atlantic
Hotels that don't have many suites, but were also 3 star and Oceanfront and very nice included:
* Sheraton Oceanfront
* Ramada Plaza Resort -57th & Atlantic
* Best Western Oceanfront
These oceanfront hotels were not nice (more like 2 star AAA) but if you have to be thrifty, they may do:
* Ambassador
* Colonial Inn
* Days Inn
* La Playa
* Oceanfront Inn
* Seaside
* Thunderbird
Avoid these places at all costs. They sounded nice on the internet so I looked at them:
* Four Sails (dirty,small, smell bad)
* Station One(run down,old furnishings)
* Marjac Suites (rips in furniture, stains on carpet)
Hope this helps!

Hi Marti - I'm not familiar with Turtle Cay, but be careful in Virginia Beach. Because some of the hotels are very old, there is alot of variety in quality here.
For instance, Four Sails and Station One looked nice on the internet and I couldn't believe the poor condition of the rooms (and these are the rooms the management SHOWED me) I'm not real fussy, but these places were gross! So unless you see it in person, or read a good review on this forum (Do a search for "Turtle Cay") I wouldn't make a reservation there. Have fun!~
