Sunday Jazz Brunch

My husband and I will be in NO in August and are planning on doing a Jazz Brunch. We have seen that alot of places have them. Which are the best and what is the dress code of them.

Thanx

The most famous is at Commander's Palace. Reservations should be made well in advance. It's been years since I've been, but I believe a coat is still required for gentlemen - ask when you make reservations.

I like the brunch at Palace Cafe, which is also operted by the same Brennan group. It's much more casual and less expensive. The eggs benedict is great.

A totally different option is Feelings Cafe in the Marigny. It's very low-key.

Court of Two Sisters is the absolute worst place for brunch. It's a total tourist trap with mediocre food.

I agree with Meg. For decades, Commander's Palace has had a reputaion for the best jazz brunch. I can't imagine a trip to NO without brunch there! My husband is in the habit of wearing coats and ties to meals at nice places, so I'm not sure what the dress code is. I know coats are required at dinner, and I think they may be required at lunch, too. Ask for the garden room. We've had both good and bad experiences at the Palace Cafe, though I haven't eaten there in several years and apparently they've gone back to their initial excellence. Mr. B's is another Brennan property that's wonderful and more casual than Commander's Palace. The Court of Two Sisters is a tourist trap of the first order. By all means go have a cocktail in their lovely courtyard, then hustle away to a good restaurant...NO has LOTS of them.

As an old New Orleans hand (who just re- turned from a marvelous short visit to the place) I concur with everyone who finds the Court of Two Sisters a tourist trap. But Commander's Palace is out- standing. Coats are required for men but they will lend you one (or two if there are two of you). Don't miss it!
