How strong is the sun in July in south central and Fairbanks? Do we need sunblock? at What SPF?

Some doctors recommend always wearing sunblock. Some recommend a SPF of at least 15. Some think that there is not too much difference after you get higher than 15 (for example SPF of 15 is much better than 5 but SPF of 40 is not much better than 30).

You can get sunburned in Alaska! You will probably get sunburned faster in Mexico.

My niece is visiting and used to live in Alaska. She says the temps probably won't get any higher than 75 inland. She tried every year to get a tan in Anchorage and couldn't. You won't need sunscreen, but if you want to have protection due to sensitivity, I'd suggest SPF 15. I also have a very good friend who used to live in Fairbanks, I'll ask her what she suggests, too.

Fairbanks can hit 90, so bring the sun block, only a small container anyway- taking up little room.

We just came back from Alaska with a start on a nice tan! We were outside so much, even though the sun is not as strong as in Texas, we did get a bit pink on our faces. If you are sensitive, wear sunscreen.

You need to wear sunblock on exposed skin summer and winter anytime you are in the sun. Use at least SPF of 15 and something with Parasol is good so you guard against UVA and UVB rays. I am passionate about this. LOL!
