Summer Mummer's Concert
Hello everyone! I have read that the Mummers do an outdoor concert on Tuesday nights. Do you think this would be worthwhile for a music loving family with boys aged eighteen and eleven? Is the area a safe one? How about public transportation? We will be in Philly four nights and we have a ballgame one night and I thought it would be nice to do the Lights of Liberty Show on another. Trying to use our time wisely so please advise pro or con. Thanks!

Looks like they are listed on this Web site. Don't have any personal knowledge, though.

I looked at the website to try and help you, I live in phila .. if the concerts are at the mummers museum, it's an OK neighborhood, not great, but it should be safe if you're with a "mummers crowd." It's a small, ethnic, lower-middle area -- the concerts might be outdoors, at the museum, in the street....I don't know if your boys know what mummer music is ... it's pretty old-fashioned, show tunes, old favorites, done by string bands..eg. banjo, brass instruments etc.. it's fun if you're in the area, but I don't know about building a vaca around it..

The summer, free dates are listed at www.mummers.org I think that it would be a great idea.
The address is shown. Check me, but I think that it is 11 blocks south of City Hall on the River.Ask for directions but consider walking south on Broad to South Street and then east. You have to be careful but feel free to ask the police for advice-they are usually very accomodating.
