Summer Arrives at 9:48 p.m. Tonight!
Well, it's finally here. I just heard on the radio that summer officially begins at 9:48 p.m. tonight, E.T. , with the summer solstice. I find both solstices to be sort of bittersweet. With the summer solstice, my favorite season begins yet shortly after it the days start getting shorter, as we really move closer to winter again.
With the winter solstice we know that many dark and cold days lie ahead, yet shortly afterwards the days start getting longer and we actually move towards summer again.

Okay, I realize that this post may seem off-topic but it doesn't have to be. It would be interesting to hear people discusss the following U.S. travel-related summer topics.
- Favorite places to be at the beginning of summer and winter
- Phenomena unique to summer or winter (such as 'Land of The Midnight Sun' in Alaska)
- Favorite seasons for taking vacations
Etc, etc.

Who cares. When its warm, cold or in between, the official date means nothing when you are still wearing your lined raincoat to work!!!!! And could possibly be wearing a light jacket at Thanksgiving. Dark, cold, warm, hot - Mother Nature is in charge not what the date is.
