Suggestions needed from ID experts
My DH and I will be in ID the 3rd week of Sept. We will be entering from BC and will drive down to Sun Valley. The last day we will head back to SLC airport to fly home. Bcs I don't know much about ID, I'd really appreciate some recommendations of what to see as we drive through the state. We are a sr couple, not hikers but walkers. Would do some boat trips but will mainly be siteseeing.
Thanks,

I am sure you will enjoy Idaho that time of year. It is beautiful. There are a number of significant Lewis and Clark sites on your route. Also how about a ghost town?
A class C-gold mining town on the north side of McKay Creek, two miles north of Bonanza, 34 miles southwest of Challis on dirt road. A museum in the old school house (operated by the Forest Service) and a few buildings are all that remain of this one-time gold camp. Custer was founded in 1876, shortly after General George A. Custer's defeat at the Little Bighorn River.
The ranger at Custer is one of the best and most enthusiastic in the service.
Stop for lunch at Stanley Baking Company in Stanley. If you are overnighting a lovely place is the Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch.
Also check out some of the Idaho hot springs. Many are accessible right off the road. Have a great trip.

Our favourite town in Idaho is Coeur d'alene. It is a lovely town and right on a lake. There are boat tours that go out from there as well. At that time of year the leaves should start turning and there are some huge trees in the downtown area that are spectacular. We stayed at the Flamingo Motel which is within walking distance to the lake, restaurants etc and is a Mom and Pop run motel. Delightful.

Well you cant go wrong coming from the panhandle of Idaho (N IDaho) to Sun Valley. Its just beautiful with mtns and forest. As previous posters, CourdAlene is a great place. Another is Sandpoint which you would come across first. Its a quaint sweet lil town. There are small places in-betweeen but the next favorite is McCall. A mtn resort type town, with another lake thats beautiful. Anyways, Im not sure which way you plan to go to get to Sun Valley, but regardless you will have a pleasant and beautiful drive.
