suggestions needed for in between Las Vegas and Los Angeles

Hi

Ours plans for our summer vacation is as follows:

Day 1 & 2 = arrive in Las Vegas, spend 2 first days there

Day 3 = between Las Vegas and Redondo Beach

Day 4 & 5 = Redondo beach

Day 6, 7 & 8 = San Diego

Day 9 = back to Las Vegas for our flight back home the next day

Any suggestions for Day 3 (between Las Vegas & Redondo Beach) ??

We like nice scenery and probably cool and greenish (something like Yosemite)after being in the HOT Las Vegas weather

My suggestion would be to just go to Redondo Beach. Between LV and Redondo, it will be hot the entire route until you get close to the beach. LV to Redondo is an easy one day drive.

You're mention of Yosemite confuses me. It is on the way to Redondo in much the same way that Harrisburg would be a logical stop between Boston and NYC.

If you really want to stop and you want cooler, the San Bernardino Mountain resorts (Big Bear, Arrowhead) might be a solution.

Have a good trip.

Between Vegas and the CA beach area there is either hot (and I mean hot) desert and as you get closer to LA, urban sprawl. Not much there that I'd say was cool and greenish.

About the only place that will be cooler would be Lake Arrowhead and/or Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mts. as the last poster indicated. It's not lush and there are no beautiful waterfalls, etc. but there are trees and the lakes. Personally, I'd just go on down to Redondo tho.

Hi Mist,

Isn't there some way you can just fly home from San Diego? The drive between Las Vegas and LA, or San Diego and LV is hot, boring, and ugly. There is really nowhere worth stopping. The San Bernardino mountains are nothing like Yosemite.

Thanks to all of you, if there is no nice greenish area on our way to Redondo Beach maybe there is stuff to see or do? Maybe a tour of a TV station or movie production company?

Mist,

Universal Studios is in the San Fernando Valley, but it's really not on the way between LV and Redondo.

Believe me, unless you want to visit Death Valley, there is nothing.

Honestly, there is nothing to see between 'Vegas and LA except the highway and desert .. and more desert. The movie/tv studios are all in the immediate LA area.

I hope you also know that while Redondo is a beach town, it's very very congested (as is most of So. CA) Redondo Beach is part of the metropolitan LA area and basically it is wall to wall people bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean.

Start early - like 5am - and drive like h... for the coast. You may make it before the sun gets too hot. Never travel the desert in the afternoon, unless you enjoy being roasted. Bring lots of water. Make sure your car is in A-1 shape.

Have a nice time in Redondo! The pier is worth going to, if it is still there.

Thanks to all,

We are meeting my in-laws in Redondo Beach. Any other beach town in the area besides the ones that I've already been to before which are : Venice beach, Santa-Monica, Laguna Beach and Manhattan Beach
