If you haven't been to Monticello yet, I'd plan a trip around there. I don't think the crowds would be too bad. It would be good to find a smaller town that does an old-fashioned parade and 4th celebration in the area.

If you do want an old fashioned Fourth of July parade, check out Kernersville, King and Pilot Mountain, NC all of which are very close to Old Salem (which will be celebrating a VERY old fashioned Fourth).
