suggest store in NY

Will have 3 days in NY in Sept so time is of the essence, can you suggest ONE great store to do some clothes shopping. I want to make the most of my stay seeing the sights and not waste time trailing around shops. Hotel probably in East St/ Murray Hill area.

What type of clothing are you looking for? If you're a hip gal in your 20's, we're going to suggest a different store than if you're a 50-year-old executive.

Thanks Anonymous. Now thats bit of a dilemma, -I'm sorta a hip gal in my 50's or aspiring to be! Jeans, tops, trendy dresses sorta thing. I'm small too, five foot nothing so thats often a problem. Have teenage kids at home so they will probably have their hands out for pressies when I get back to Ireland.

Depends on budget too. Barney's, Bloomingdales in Soho and/or Scoop are good places for trendy clothes but not cheap. Scoop has a few locations, one near Bloomingdales.

Nearest your hotel, Lord & Taylor (dept store) while not uber trendy has a reasonable selection of national brands and is user friendly. If you want trendy and inexpensive, H & M is a good place to look.

Bloomingdales would be my first choice.

Definitely more upscale than Macy's but will not break the bank like Saks or Bergdorf Goodman.

Unless you have an unlimited amount to spend and my first choice would be Bergdorf Goodman.

Olive and Bette's in Soho and on Bleecker Street, and on the Upper East Side (74th-79th and 3rd Avenue) cute shops like Anik, Forreal, Big Drop, and my favorite-Precision! There are 4 of them-on 60th and 3rd, 35th and 3rd, 75th and 3rd and then one across the street. Quite pricey but great clothes. Good for t-shirts, pants, sweaters, dresses. Intermix is also good-a few locations. These are usually stores for 20-30 somethings but hey, who says there are restrictions???? Have fun.
