Suggest a winter coastal destination??

There are so many possibilities that I really need suggestions. Here's what I want: three days by the ocean (either coast, coming from Chicago), peace and quiet, relaxation (definitely a massage), good casual dining and maybe low-key shopping nearby (not malls and chain restaurants), and a comfortable room from which I can see and hear the ocean. This will be in February or March, and I'm looking to spend no more than $100-125/night for lodging. (Though a nice bathroom with a big bathtub would be nice.) I don't even need particularly great weather--I don't mind bundling up a bit to walk on the shore. Ideas, anyone?

With only three days to work with you need to choose a place within easy reach of an airport - driving to and from a good location could blow the better part of one of those days. I would have said to go with Mendocino or Gualala (N. Calif.) but the drive would take too long, so let me give three ideas which pop into my mind:
Fly into Victoria, BC and stay at Empress Hotel/ fly into SFO and stay at a motel right on the beach in Pacifica at Rockaway Beach/ fly into BOS and go up to Gloucester and stay at a motel at Bass Rocks. You'll find something to your liking -- maybe pick up an issue of Caostal Living magazine to see if some locale jumps out at you.

I hear Sanibel is lovely, but my budget won't allow it in high season!

kline, I like those suggestions a lot. I'll definitely take a look at Coastal Living. Thanks!

Nancy, Spirit Airlines has direct flights out of Chicago to Myrtle Beach and it is about a 2 1/2 flight. Since it is cheap, quick, and you only have 3 days, I would do that. When you get to the MB Airport, drive south and stay at Litchfield By The Sea. Live Oaks, Spanish Moss, R&R, great seafood dining in Murrells Inlet and Pawleys.
