STUCK in Las Vegas/Grand Canyon
Hi! We are in Las Vegas, getting ready to head to the Grand Canyon for the night and we were notified we aren't going to be able to get home to Boston Sunday as planned (Thanks to another winter storm). We don't want to stay in Vegas any longer, and we will be in the Grand Canyon on Saturday. What should we do?? We'd like something on the cheaper side? Should we stay in GC another day or drive somewhere else? Ideally we'd like to go somewhere else close enough that we can drive back to Vegas for Monday (when we can hopefully get out! Have heard Zion and Red Rocks are options.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

For real cheap, check out Laughlin. When you leave GC, head west on 40, look for the rt 66 towards Oatman) sign past Kingman. Take the E ticket ride on 66 through Oatman give a burro a carrot then look for signs for Laughlin. If you go on line you will probably find Vegas style hotel/casinos for under $50 a night. It is about an hour back to Vegas when you get a ride.

Did they already change your tickets to Monday or did they tell you to stand by or what? You wanna get on the phone with your airline and get any available Monday seats before everyone else snags them. You can always change again to Tuesday if that's what the weather warrants.
I wouldn't want to drive all the way from Grand Canyon to Vegas airport on Monday before a long flight so no I wouldn't stay @ Grand Canyon sunday night. And check the weather before heading to Zion. I think I'd vote Sedona but that would give you a 4 hr drive to Las Vegas too. Desert Quail Inn is $110 Sunday night but booking.com says only one room left. Hilton Lake Las Vegas resort is $110 if you decide to get closer to Las Vegas that night. Zion is too cold you don't want that, and Red Rock is in the wrong direction.

Given your situation, I'd simply go back to Las Vegas for lodging. It's there in abundance, and if you are tired of the Strip, you can find someone well away from it and ignore the gambling. Then definitely go out and explore Red Rock Canyon or something in the surrounding area.
I suspect you will find that all the lodging near the region's national parks is long booked up for the holiday weekend.

If you want this to be on the relaxing side then I'd book another night at the Grand Canyon. You really won't have much time if you spend just one night there. You could see more of the different overlooks.
If you like being on the move, then a circle round trip would be good. Las Vegas - Grand Canyon - Page, AZ (Lake Powell) - Zion - Las Vegas. If you can't find a place to stay in Springdale try Hurricane, UT. Keep calling places and hope someone had to cancel.

If you have not seen Hoover dam, you could stay a night at the Hacienda casino/hotel which is about 2 miles from the dam. You do not have to go through the casino to get to your room or to the great all you can eat buffet. Allow 2 hours to get back to the rental car center and the shuttle into the airport.
Closer to the airport, I liked the Fiesta in Henderson. The Fiesta has a good breakfast spot downstairs before you head to the airport. You check out on your TV screen with your remote and drop the key card in a slot next to the elevator-simple.
