street performers on NYC

What is the best place and day to catch street performers in New York City. The local paper had a travel section on New York City recently and showed a performer at Battery Park; is this correct?

Yes, we watched some performers whilst waiting for the ferry across to Liberty - my daughter loved them and still talks about them now, two years later!

Times Square subway station on the platform or near the Shuttle.Might also find them on Broadway from 43rd ST to 47th St. They will always be in Battery Park near the Circle Line boat to the STatue of Liberty.

AS a new yorker that pays little attention to them beyond finding them annoying, i'd say in front of the GM/Trump Building Fifth between 58/59 is a prime spot. i worked there for 11 years and they were outside everyday dancing.

also, 42nd and broadway on the 42nd street side.

The pathway to the Central Park Zoo if you enter the park from near the Plaza Hotel on 5th Avenue is lined with them. Musicians, mimes, artists, etc.

I would say you could find performers at any large subway station - 42nd st/Bdwy, Grand Central (not in GC itself but near the subway entrances), 14th st/Union Sq.

If you do happen to go into Grand Central, don't forget to look up. The ceiling is beautiful.

South street seaport -- without fail. You can grab a cup of hot cocoa and watch them all day long here. Weekends are the best time to see them, and I guarantee you will have a ball.
