Stratosphere Hotel
Has anyone stayed here recently? I am planning my second trip to Vegas. I realize the hotel is located in an older section of the strip and that does not bother me. I've heard mixed reviews and was wondering if anyone could help.
Thanks!

You can't walk to any of the good hotels from the Strat.
It's in a borderline dangerous area of town.
It's a rather ramshackle, non-descript place.
If the only reason you're staying there is a cheap room rate, I'll bet you can find something at least as good in a better part of the strip if you look around.
I just cannot recommend the Strat.

May I ask, are your reservations for the week or weekend? Because I have to agree with the previous response. If you're going during the week, you can find good deals at the more high end strip casino hotels. Weekends are more expensive but you may be able to find a good deal.
Now, if you want a reasonable (I would say cheap) hotel casino, check out the casino royale. it's center strip b/t harrahs and venetian. It's not fancy & nice as some other hotels on the strip but if you want reasonable, give them a call.
here's the url: www.casinoroyale.com

Thanks for your replies. Having visited Vegas two years ago, I know the Stratosphere is located in a remote area of the strip. As for walking, we walked from the Luxor to the Stratosphere and then back to Paris. So that does not bother me. I am really looking for feedback on the hotel itself.
Our stay will be from a Monday to Monday.
Thanks again!

It's a cheap, run down hotel. In a city filled with inexpensive but still bordering on luxury hotels, it is amazing that anyone except an unsuspecting foreign traveler who got it as part of a cheap tour package would stay there. Incidentally, that is the majority of their trade -- foreign tour groups. What more do you want to know about the hotel except that it is cheap and run down? If you are looking for some sort of reassurance that it is a great place to stay, it is doubtful that you will get that.

You obviously know the layout of the strip.
I suspect you know something about price ranges at other hotels.
So my question for you is, why would you choose the Stratosphere over something at least as nice, closer to the middle of the strip, at a similar price?

Holly..to answer your question..the Strat is an ok hotel. Since you allready know the area I am not going to say anything about that. Rooms at the Strat are above average size wise. Nothing fancy but clean. If you just want a good clean cheap place to sleep you should be ok. Hope this helps.

Holly-
My wife and I stayed at the Stratosphere last year. It was our first trip to Las Vegas and I think it gets a bad rap from a lot of people because of the location. We found it to be a nice place to stay. They have valet parking so you don't need to worry about walking in a dark parking lot at night. There is also a shuttle bus that stops right in front of the lobby that will take you all the way down the strip.
The buffets were pretty good for the price and the Superstar show was the best bargain for a show and dinner.
The view at the top is the best in Vegas.
Don't let all the negative replies deter you from having a good time.

This is such a funny thread. Holly asks for opinions. When people mention run down rooms, she ignores them, but tells us "that is the answer I was looking for" when someone says it is OK. In other words, she doesn't want the truth, she only wants to be assured that she made a wise choice, whether it is or not. Holly, do yourself a favor and don't accept a room until you've checked it out. You might not like the torn draperies and worn and stained bedspreads, the used condom under the bed, or the filthy bathroom with mildew growing in the shower. But if things like that don't bother you, then have fun.

LOL Are you listening? Ever stayed there? Didnt think so! Granted the Strat is not in a good area but as one poster stated they do have valet parking and free shuttles that drop people off by the Monte Carlo. Now as to the room conditions, we stayed there over New Years Eve. Last minute decision to go to LAS and not many choices in places to stay. Our room was large with 2 queen beds, an armoire with a 32" tv and it was clean and comfortable. I do agree with you on one thing though, check out the room first. But you should do that at any hotel you go to.

No, I didn't stay there. We booked there at a rate of $49 two years ago. We actually looked at three rooms, each was dirtier than the one before. Alright so I lied about the used condom, but the rest was absolutely true. After looking at three rooms, we refused to stay. And they all smelled like mold or mildew. We went to Bally's and got a beautiful room for $59, a special "last minute" rate. If it had been $ 98, the double price would have been justified after seeing those rooms at Stratosphere, the extra $10 was an incredible bargain. Have they refurbished the rooms in the past ten years? Considering how worn they were two years ago, they must be threadbare by now. Enjoy your savings Holly.

Hope you're wearing boots Holley the sh*t is getting deep in here! LOL The Strat is not run down. The rooms while simple are reasonable clean, don't smell. They have brand new tower just opened last year, new swimming pool.I've also stayed in a well worn Bally's room myself although it was easy to visit someplace nicer

I stayed at the Strat and the room I was assigned did smell but of smoke. I asked and received another room It was nothing special but it was clean and did not reek. The location is not good. The only place you can walk to is the Sahara. The best Black Jack on the strip. You can play a single deck game for 5 bucks a hand. I payed 19 a nite via Expedia. This was in 00 the mondat after Turkey Day. I was there also last thurs to play some Black Jack and to ride the coaster. High Roller sucked, Big Shot was awesome. If you can get another Hotel for an extra 10-15 bucks or so in a better location, I would take it. If you found a great deal on the Strat, consider staying there. If is not as bad as people are making it to be. I bet most of them have not stayed there.
