mooselywild, parents had no choices or input at all, neither did the nuns. It was decided at the archdiocese with the "vendor" who could make the most for the cheapest in WOOL. In Chicago, and there was NO air conditioning in any buildings, nor in church. It was often over 85 or 90 degrees in September.
We were divided into 4 groups of about 52 kids each. One nun who in my first case was about 22 with 2 years of college. She was a GREAT teacher, but the way.
OSB, I just remembered this one. I was about 7-1/2 years old. 2nd day of school, they line us up and I think we are going to go get socks or something (we didn't have the socks or shoes yet). It's single file, no talking (of course) and we end up getting polio shots. No forms, no parents, no pauses. One to swipe on the alcohol, 1 to give you the shot, the next to apply the band-aid. And these were NOT like today's syringes.
As you left you got your "letter to take home"- telling them what to do about the fever. REALLY! And we were all SO GLAD that we got the shots, because some from last year were "gone" or paralyzed.
Oh, a 13 year old girl with size C in her one size fits all white uniform blouse. I know some "boy" who never forgot her.

OSB, I love that idea! I think that may be the travel solution of the future! (NEAR future!)
I wouldn't look to be able to buy those items in flight, although like you, I can wish. If those are in the ingredients for a bomb, then they could purchase their ingredients in flight. Scary!

Lots of chuckles in these responses!
Of course, someone would have to give it more thought, work out the kinks, but SOMETIMES I would like to not have to worry with the prep of packing/lugging/watching my bags and just get on the plane and go!
It wouldn't work for long trips, but I could get by if the designer had alittle 'style' and color variation.
And for all you Naah sayers, I said at the outset this was a strange idea!

I still have part of my HS uniform wrapped in plastic in my bottom drawer. Let’s see, they are paisley bell-bottomed corduroys! What I would have given to fit into those at the CSNY concert last month.
…scratching my head….where did I leave those buffalo sandals..?

HAHAHAHAHAH. If only you knew.
I just let it be, but believe me, you wouldn't have wanted South side Chicago reality.
We had all of those negatives visible around us, plus race riots. And they never even got into the newspaper as such. School was a refuge in comparison. No, it was a refuge, period.
And I would definitely say that especially the alcohol aspect was worse then than it is now. Ozzie & Harriet didn't live on my block. I bet you don't know who Ozzie & Harriet are-mooselywild. I'm a dinosaur.
