Stopover between Yosemite and Vegas

Driving from Yosemite to Vegas in a couple of weeks (End April). What is the best place to stopover for a night? Is it really Bakersfield? Any better suggestions?

Leave Yosemite a little after daybreak and drive straight through. Not Bakersfield, not Barstow, not Baker (maybe lunch at Big Boy). If you really can't reach Las Vegas stay in Primm Nevada (exit 1)

No place good to stop. If you find yourselves getting tired and simply must rest -- then stop in Tehacapi. Several chain motels

Are you driving your own car or a rental? I heard that there was some flooding in Yosemite last week and some things were closed down.
Next to the Bob's Big Boy in Baker is the world's tallest thermometer. No guarantee that it will be working (134').
In Primm there is a roller coaster that runs around and through the biggest hotel. Miss Ashley's is a good place for breakfast before heading into LV.
Driving up Rt. 58 on Tehachpi Pass you will see many windmills that are stopped and not producing power. They were owned by Enron. They are now mostly owned by GE the original manufacturer. GE has no desire to be in the power production business.
