Stinky "Corpse Flower" about to Bloom at Huntington Library in Pasadena
A rare event. It is expected to bloom in the next few days. As of today, it is almost 6 feet tall. I wish I could go to witness this (and the smell).

Love the link, look about 2/3 of the way down the page where the hours admission policy is and look at the face on the kid in the picture! His face says it all " P U" !
I can't imagine how badly that must smell. Ever smell a ripe durian or eat one? The smell is awful;they are banned in many public places. The taste is said to be divine.

I have smelled durian many times (in fact, a bakery shop in Chinatown will make you a durian cake on order), and while it's unpleasant, it's not anything like rotten meat/dead animal.

Very interesting! My Mom has a cactus, Stapelia, and it produces an ugly, hairy, and very stinky flower, but it's closer to 6 inches than 6 feet. I can't imagine what this monster must smell like!

I had durian in Thailand. To me it tasted like a cross between onions and mercaptans (the natural gas odor chemicals).
I was told eat it three times and you are hooked, but once was enough for me!

It's so cute. They suggest giving one as a father's day gift. Maybe for your ex! It's so cute!
They serve durian ice cream in a Vietnamese restaurant in Seattle. We were warned it is an "acquired taste" by the server. My BIL had tried it before and said he hadn't acquire the taste so we passed on it. Thank goodness. I'm still working on acquiring a taste for the fish sauce.
