Still looking for LAX hotel!

Hi,
We thought we'd made up our mind and would stay at Manhattan beach for one night but now the time of our flights have been changed and we will no longer have a full day. We should get at LAX at 2.00pm and leave the next day at 1.00pm.
We are now looking for a cheap hotel (max $100)within walking distance of a Denny's or something similar. It would have been nice to be close to a shopping mall too but we can't find any such hotels. We will not have a car and will therefore have to rely on a hotel shuttle.
Thanks for our help.

Go to hotwire and type in LAX. When it gives you your choice of us to 5 areas, pick Airport only. They will give you little icons to show you whether or not there is a shuttle.

I can't remember about LAX but I've never been around an airport hotel that had shopping and dining within walking distance. Most airports are remote. However, that doesn't mean LAX hotels will not have shuttles to other places.

Also check with Expedia and Travelocity. They usually give more detailed information.

O.k., I'm taking the Denny's request pretty seriously.... If you go to Dennys.com you can use their restaurant locator. There are a couple of Denny's close to LAX. Looks like the closest is at 5535 W. Century Blvd. You can use the feature on Expedia to search near an address - and find airport hotels that are close to Denny's. There are several that also have shuttles to the airport and that are also less than 100. Just FYI, there are a bunch of hotels right around LAX, lots of them have restaurants inside. Also, if you get really stuck for food, try the Bradley terminal at LAX. They have a couple of places to eat that have o.k. food - including The Daily Grill.

I'm not sure when your trip is, but based on your criteria, here's my advice:

1. When searching for a hotel, stay away from the Century Blvd. and Inglewood properties. You do not want to be walking around in these areas at night.

2. Stick to hotels in El Segundo or Manhattan Beach. Most have free airport shuttles.
The Embassy Suites in El Segundo usually can be had for $110 or so. This includes a breakfast and usually some sort of happy hour refreshments. They also have a free airport shuttle.
The downside is that there's not much within walking distance.

The Manhattan Beach Marriott would be your best bet. I've seen $99 rates there. You would be within walking distance of lots of fabulous eateries (better than Denny's-trust me). Il Fornaio, P.F.Changs, Flemings, Cozymels, Houstons, Johnny Rockets and many, many others are all close-by.

Manhattan Village Mall is a small shopping center that would be a very reasonable cab fare away from any MB or El Segundo property. The Marriott and other hotels may even have a free shuttle there.

You might also check out hotels in the Torrance area near Del Amo Fashion Center. The mall is average with a Macy's, Sears, JC Penny's nothing real fancy but it's ok for looking. It's about 40 to 45 minutes from LAX.

There's a Hilton across from the center as well as a Mariott. It also has a Denny's, Koo Koo Roos (Chicken), Borders and other eating places in the area. Getting to the too above hotels shouldn't be too hard, I think they have shuttles too/from the airport (this is where a lot of the flight crews stay). I don't know if they are in your price range. There is also an Extended Stay Suites Hotel across the street that might have a better rate. I'm not sure if the Extended Suites have a shuttle though.

I remember your post from before when we all gave you so much advice, trying to make your one day perfect. Just stick with the Comfort Inn in Manhattan Beach that you originally asked about. Spend your afternoon near the MB pier, have dinner at The Kettle Restaurant there (better than Denny's)and have a good nights rest before your long flight the next day.
PS Do stay away from the Century Blvd./Inglewood hotels.

Or just bid for a 3-star hotel at LAX (looks on biddingfortravel.com like the Radisson or Crown Plaza are coming up regularly for around $50.) and use the savings for dinner and a cab to MB and back. The airport hotels on Century or around the airport all have shuttles and are all okay for one night, especially at that sort of price.

lvk, we quite like the Embassy Suites in El Segundo but it's $184, so a bit too expensive for us. I'll keep looking on the net to see if I can find a better deal.

This may or may not help. We stayed at the Sheraton Four Points in Dec. They have a free shuttle back and forth to LAX. I read somewhere that there is a shuttle to the beach and mall from LAX for travellers with long layovers. You might look into that.

Back to the Sheraton for a minute...it wasn't the greatest hotel we've ever stayed in, for sure. Rooms were sort of 'tired', but we got an internet price of around $85. We had to be out the door by 5:00 am, so close proximity and decent rate, with shuttle, were important

That is steep for that Embassy Suites. I would still not resort to staying on Century Blvd in an under-$100 property. You can get the DoubleTree in El Segundo or the Courtyard by Marriott in El Segundo for $85 or less. They have continuous free shuttles to/from LAX. They're basically located in the Aerospace office bldg. zone, so they cater more to the business traveler, but would be fine for your purposes. Check out the reviews on tripadvisor.com Good luck!

Here is the perfect place for you, a few miles north of LAX, about 7-8 minute shuttle ride.

Did a priceline bid and got the 4 Star Westin at LAX for $50. Love those heavenly beds! There is a shopping center in the area, and they have a shuttle to it. Also, a shuttle to the airport (we didn`t to the shopping center.) We did take a cab to Santa Monica and back, and with what we spent, We should have just stayed in Santa Monica. There is nothing around LAX. We also went to the Getty Museum and really enjoyed that.

Priceline and hotwire generally have good LAX rates on Fri and Sat, sometimes Sunday.
