Steamers for lunch on Cape Cod?
My DH and I are going to Cape Cod (Harwich Port) this weekend for a family wedding. We'll have Saturday morning and afternoon free. We're staying at the Inn at Swan River (dog friendly) with our four-legged boy. My DH would be thrilled with some steamers for lunch -- I am kosher so I don't know anything about that sort of thing ;-)
Can someone suggest a place for lunch where he can get steamers and I can have something else and maybe the dog is welcome too?
thanks!

Brax's Landing right there in Harwich Port would probably work out nicely. Call ahead to ask about the dog on the patio....though I'd imagine you could tie it to the tree on the lawn. The dog will enjoy the port view.
I'd also call first to be sure they're serving steamers that day.

Almost everywhere on the Cape that has casual seating (like picnic tables) outside the restaurant will be okay for dogs. This is perfect for the walk-up window type of clam shacks. I'm not familiar with the area where you are staying but the Inn can probably give you a recommendation.
If you want to take a ride, Provincetown is very dog friendly with lots of outside dining areas. Mac's on the Pier in Wellfleet has steamers and picnic tables in the sand overlooking the harbor. You could drive to Great Island, part of the National Seashore in Wellfleet on the bay side, and walk the trail with your dog to the first dune opening to the beach and then walk on the beach there. It is about a two-mile drive from Mac's and you look at it across the harbor.
Be aware that there can be heavier traffic mid-day going North on Rt. 6 and late morning going South on Rt. 6, as cottages change over for the new week.

thank you for the suggestions and tips, this is very helpful. I haven't been to Cape Cod in 17 or 18 years. We are very excited. Great Island sounds wonderful; unfortunately, Humphrey (our dog) doesn't like water, so I'm not sure how he's going to react to the ocean. Though, maybe he'll want a steamer too....

cw - I'm not convinced that you know the local ordinance in regards to dogs in outdoor patio areas. I may be outdated myself, but recall a place in p'town where our hound was not allowed within the gated outdoor patio, so we had to tie him outside the fence next to our table with a dish of water the restaurant was happy to offer.
