So where did you go and did he enjoy his legal drink?

I got home from Boston today and just signed on to report back and I see gail beat me to it!

I told you that this trip was about the drink, but it turned out in the end to be all about the steak!

DS (#3) ordered a Long Island iced tea and yes, he did enjoy it. Grill 23 has a special on Mondays where you can get a bottle of wine for $23, so instead of a $13 glass of wine I figured it was a much better deal to buy the bottle for me! I didn't drink it all, and enjoyed some tonight back at home.

Once DS saw the menu prices however, he almost fell off his chair. He immediately said he would order the steak frites, the cheapest steak meal at $29. (Good kid that DS!) I said, I didn't drive all this way for you to order the cheapest steak! He couldn't believe his good fortune. I told him he could have the NY Strip which is his favorite steak ($49 a la carte) and he also ordered a side of mashed potatoes and Caesar salad. I never heard him rave about a dinner so much EVER. He was in Heaven and said it was the best steak he's ever had. That made me so happy.

So in case anyone is going there, there is valet parking as mentioned above, $16 + tip which they asked for when I charged the fee on my Visa.

I had a bowl of chowder - clam chowder with lobster meat and lobster stock. I asked the waiter how it was and he said they just received some award for it, so of course I had to give it a try. Delicious!

We were completely stuffed by the end of the meal, but got a mini dessert. I had to have something with a candle for DS, but he could barely manage two spoonfuls. Never have I seen THAT happen before lol!

Then he went back to his dorm and studied until midnight for a test today.

I drove about 45 minutes west after dropping him off to cut down the driving time today. My room was smokey and unvacuumed so I went back to the desk and asked to change rooms. They were extremely apologetic and put me in a beautiful suite instead. All in all, the perfect day!

Thanks again for all the suggestions. I'm so glad I asked and received such wonderful advice. Now I have to wait and see DH's reaction when he sees that I spent just about $200! Yikes! I remember DS#1's 21st Birthday - we took him to a local Applebees for his drink. We have certainly come a long way since that day!

Sounds perfect. As far as the cost - looking back I have zero regrets about any money we ever spent on experiences with our kids. I wish the same could be said for the money spent on all sorts of possessions.

I totally agree with gail. Money spent on experiences with kids and grandkids is money well spent. Much more satisfying and memorable than spending on things.

I totally agree that any amount of $ was worth it to see how happy my son was. No regrets here!

It was also fun to throw caution to the wind for a change!

I'm a day late and a dollar short, but try Fleming's the next time you go to Boston. My older son is big into steakhouses, and he took me there once. Incredibly good food and friendly service. Glad you enjoyed Boston. By the way, I agree that money spent on our children, even when they're grown, is money well spent.
