STAYING IN BOSTON

The Park Plaza is in a higher price category than the other hotels mentioned. I don't know anything about the Shawmut Inn, but the Midtown is a conveniently located budget hotel near the Christian Science Center. It's nothing spectacular from the outside, but I have heard from people who have stayed there that it is a good budget choice.

Thanks to several recommendations seen on this forum, our family stayed at the Midtown this August & were very happy with it. It's not the most attractive building from the outside but inside it's perfectly nice, with friendly efficient staff, an outside pool, an excellent breakfast-only restaurant, and even its own car park which I gather is rare in a Boston hotel. It was centrally located and yet a lot cheaper than many other more obvious choices, which meant we had more money to spend elsewhere. It's also very near where the popular Duck Tours kick off if you were interested in doing one of those.
