Staying in Big Sur

Hi,

We're taking our two boys 9 and 10 on a trip from San Francisco to Big Sur in August. We're stopping first in Pescadero at Costanoa. My husband and I have been here a few times and think the boys will enjoy it. Looking for a place to stay in Big Sur the next night. We have stayed at Post Ranch but no kids allowed. We have tried booking Treebones which looks great but is completely sold out. We currently have reservations at Big Sur Lodge. This gets mixed reviews. Any other places within 50 miles to the south that you would recommend we try. We'll look at anything from resorts to cabin lodging. Thanks for the help.

Highlands Inn outside of Carmel is fabulous. We had also looked at Post Ranch but it was beyond our budget. Highlands is a good base for day trips to the south.

Treebones does look cool - too bad!

Big Sur Lodge is rustic/basic but a neat property for kids. We stayed there with several families (all accustomed to more luxurious accomodations) and had a terrific time. I think it's a safe bet for you.
