Hi - Just wanted to get your opinion here. We are traveling to Kauai in June and there are 2 hotels which I REALLY want to visit - one is in the south and one is in the north. Do you think it's crazy to split our time and do 3 nights in each hotel? Are the regions different enough that it is worth getting the 2 experiences, or is it so easy to get from one side of the island to the other that it is not worth it to switch hotels? I realize this is a matter of opinion, but I can't seem to make a decision so I need help!Thank YOu!

We don't like to move around much, so the idea of 3/3 does not appeal to me.

I'm not going to enter the north vs south debate. The whole island is amazing and every bit of it is worth a visit. I prefer staying on the north shore.

It is fairly easy to get around. It is a small island. Some will moan about the traffic throuh Kapa'a and Lihue, but it never really has bothered me much. How can I bitch about the problem when I am part of it and making it worse? That's always been my attitude.

Well call us crazy because that's exactly what we did and in retrospect wouldn't change a thing--great experience. Being military, we stayed at the Barking Sands Missile Range Facility located on the west side of the island--we had a house right on the beach that was amazing and we were close to Polihale Beach which, when were there, was practically deserted. From there, we moved over to the Princeville Resort where it was far more lush, green and mountainous. Both areas were gorgeous, imo.

I tend to agree with iamq. The island is small enought o travel one end to the other in 2 to 2/1/2 hours. I also tend to enjoy the north shore much better, but travel south if rain threatens or to sight see. I do not enjoy packing and repacking, especially for a 3/3 stay. Choose a preference and travel from one base for day trips. IMO

I think the answer really depends on the type of traveler you are. If you throw a few things in a bag then packing up to move could be virtually effortless. Say you stay 3 nights in the south doing all the things within reach that you wish to do. Then on the 4th morning you wake up and in the process of getting dressed to go out you are able to get your stuff easily packed up and get checked out and on your way to an adventure that is on the north side. Then at the end of said adventure you check in to your new hotel. Well that doesn't seem like much of a hassle to me. So if it's something you really want to do I'd make sure what you have planned will not put any possessions in your car at risk. When we took the Captain Sundown boat trip out of Hanalei Bay our cars were parked inside a fenced area where the office workers were nearby.
