Quincy is name of a town south of Boston, vs Quincy Market which is in the city.

Note that it's quite a hike from the water taxi dock to Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall.

The Millennium hotel, at the edge of Faneuil Hall Marketplace has changed hands and/or is currently undergoing a massive redo of the rooms so often turns up on Hotwire and Priceline. And, there are tons of brand new hotel rooms with a declining occupancy due to the economy, so you may run into some good luck.

If you haven't shopped Hotwire recently, there's a new trick for narrowing down hotel possibilities "TripAdvisor rating" with number of reviews. BIG CLUE here. (I just "picked" the Wynn for Las Vegas accurately with this method.)

Just an update. I was able to secure a great hotel, the Renaissance Waterfront, on Priceline for my mom for the three nights at an unbelievable price.

It worked out great and so many of the restaurants we enjoyed were nearby. The airport Silver Line bus also stops behind the hotel, although we didn't need to use it to go there.

Had no problem using public transportation everywhere. A city tour bus stops at this hotel every morning. There is a small café, Pressed Sandwich, around the corner that has a $4.95 breakfast plate which my mom took advantage of, too.

Thanks for all the suggestions and keeping me away from LOGAN! This would be so much nicer than an airport hotel for morning flight, and a few minutes away from Logan on a direct bus.

I would stay in this area even if I were returning. I really enjoyed it in the summer. It is so refreshng to be near the water, ( although the hotel is not ON the water) and MUCH cheaper that the other hotels on the waterfront more towards town.

Thanks for the update. It is important that Boston visitors actually reread post-trip comments since almost universally those of us from the Boston area strongly recommend staying IN Boston and not at airport or suburbs. While there are some who report back tolerable experiences doing otherwise and I know Boston is extremely expensive - we really do know what is what about Boston and commutes and are just trying to help visitors enjoy our great city. Glad you both had a good trip.

I'm glad it worked out fine. I personally still would not stay in the Waterfront area unless I get a great deal at those hotels (like you did). I prefer staying in town within walking distance of the historic sites. The waterfront area is fine to stay during summer months when it's nice to walk around; but definitely less desirable during the cold winter months!

I can imagine the enjoyment dissipates in the winter! But it was great to be near the water, the Volvo event and several of the restaurants recommended here and on Chowhound.
