Midnight Train to Georgia
Rainy Night in Georgia
Missouri Waltz
Tallahasee Lassy
Yellow Rose of Texas
My Old Kentucky Home
Tennessee Waltz
A New York State of Mind
Moon Over Miami
Gary, Indiana from Music Man
OKLAHOMA from Oklahoma
On Wisconsin
Blue Hawaii
North to Alaska

It's amazing, there just is no end. Especially if you go back into pop and country songs of the early 1900's.

I work in Kentucky but live in Ohio so I'll do both.

I love "My Old Kentucky Home" when they play it at the Derby every year - timeless.

"Hang on Sloopy" is a big Ohio song - you spell out O-H-I-O at one part (they played it at the Bengals game last weekend). I believe it started at Ohio State but has gone beyond that.

Also, there is a funny song that DH has on a CD called "The Cockroach That Ate Cincinnati." Don't know it's orgins but it is amusing.

Yes, you are right. How could I forget Elmo. We have seen him improv etc. Great song and does encompass city's sprit, but it is hard to "sing along with".

"House of the Rising Sun" by The Animals reminds me of New Orleans (my childhood home).

In our game we didn't allow songs that had the name in the song but not in the title. That is why Michigan / Illinois and some others have so few. They are hard words to title/ sound in song.

'Moonlight in Vermont'is a real pretty song done by Sinatra, Willie Nelson, Johnny Smith, and others. How about 'Massachusetts' by the BeeGees. Apparently they just closed their eyes and put a finger on a US map to choose this state! John Gorka's 'I'm From New Jersey' is a great commentary on the New Jersey mindset.
I can't think of any for New Hampshire my home state!

I'm a native of Mason City, Iowa, which claim to fame is that it is the home town of Merideth Wilson, composer of The Music Man. Though it's a fictional name, River City, IS Mason City so many of the songs mention Iowa (Iowa Stubborn) or River City. By the way, the town spent I don't know how many million to build a replica of the set from the Music Man - Music Man Square - right by Mr. Wilson's old boyhood home. Kind of weird IMO.

Bardo1,
The first line of the song is "It was Christmas Eve in the drunk tank...", right there you realize "Silent Night" it's not.

Massachusetts based songs...
Please Come to Boston. (forgot who sings it.)
Old Cape Cod by Patty Page.

Boston Beauty by the Wolfetones

Charlie on the MTA by the Kingston Trio

Southie is My Hometown.

Sweet Baby James by James Taylor (the first of December was covered with snow and so was the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston)

Zootsi - There is actually an entire CD of songs dedicated to the State of New Hampshireby the Shaw Brothers "All Along the Merricmack" is my personal favorite. The Shaw Brothers are most famous for being members of the New Christie Minstrels and singing "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" - the iconic song from the sixties and Coke commercials.

For me it has always been "California Dreamin'". Love the song, and when I've been away from home for a while (So Cal), I always find this song running through my head and get a little homesick.

Of course, "California, Here I Come" is also high on my list, but I confess I don't know all the words to it!

Back Home Again in Indiana
Maryland, My Maryland

And I cheated and looked something else up and did finally find a Michigan one.
I Want to Go Back to Michigan - it was a best seller in 1914.

Funnest one I found other than the great Minnesota one above:

I Miss that Mississippi Miss that Misses Me
