Spring Break 2009 HELP !!!
We are trying to pick a destination for Spring Break next year for my family (husband and 2 daughters, 9 & 6). We went to San Diego this year and Disney World the year before. Prefer to stay in mainland USA and prefer not to go anywhere that will be really cold ! We aren't skiers.
Please does anyone have any suggestions ?

It really depends on what your definition of cold may be & when your Spring Break happens to fall. Take a look at New Orleans, although there is no guarantee about the weather anywhere, unless you are looking @ S. Fla. Or S. Cal. The other would be the Fla. Keys, although you can run into breakers, in Key West.

I like Gretchen's idea. Take a look at starting in Colonial Williamsburg, along with Busch Gardens then hit Mt Vernon on your way up into D.C. There is a wonderful zoo and way too many other things to mention do with you kids in Washington, D.C.
Keep in mind that spring is especially beautiful with the cherry blossoms in bloom and the weather is mild and nice.
P.S. my girl still talks about going back someday! ;>)

Washington D.C. sounds like a great idea. I never realized it would be warm at that time of year.
If you've never been to one of the big indoor waterparks that would be a fun thing to do on spring break. We went to the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas and our group had so much fun. I don't know where you are located, but Great Wolf Lodge has locations other than Grapevine of course. And there are other indoor waterparks that I'm not familiar with but I'm sure you would find fun. I believe the the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine has that chain's biggest indoor waterpark.
Grapevine itself is located between Dallas and Fort Worth and should have nice weather in late March and April (early March can be unpredictable). You could do the waterpark for 2 or 3 days and then spend time visiting Dallas and Fort Worth. The Dallas Arboretum has the Spring Blooms at that time and is absolutely stunning, lots of photo opportunities for your girls. There's lots of shopping, such as the Galleria, NorthPark Center and the Stonebriar Mall in Frisco (about 20 to 30 minutes away). We like shopping in Frisco because there's plenty of things for both me and my ten year old daughter to do. We shop and then she enjoys ice skating in the mall and visiting Dave and Buster's for a meal followed by lots of arcade games. We both enjoy a visit to Sam Moon for shopping. She also likes to go to the indoor rock climbing facility in Frisco. In Fort Worth you can visit the Stockyards and the zoo. Six Flags in Arlington is open on the weekends in March and April, and occasional weekdays. If you like baseball the Texas Rangers will be playing in Arlington. Grapevine itself has things to do as well.
Good luck finding a place!

Great spring breaks when the kids were younger: Arizona (Phoenix, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon); Chicago; Williamsburg (I think they have a Great Wolf Lodge, too, if you want to combine history and water park.)
You should also consider Costa Rica some time. It's the perfect time of year to go and the flight isn't long.

DC was a great spring break destination, but I suggest waiting until your kids are a bit older and appreciate more of the venues. At some point they will study the branches of government in their schools, and then is a good time to visit DC.
After sitting at school desks all day, my kids liked to be able to move during spring break. We enjoyed San Diego and Disney, too. My son LOVED Sanibel Island. Beaches are a good break from routine that time of year.
Chicago was good for a 4 day trip, and we also had fun in NYC during a spring break. Loads to do in NYC. Depending on where you live, you might consider St. Louis as well, for a longer weekend. They have a great zoo, and the arch is fun for everyone.

I would also consider the SW. Az & /or NM. It may also have an impact as to where you can get to, affordably. I'd start looking now at flights. That may very well make your decision for you, since I am assuming you would fly out of LAR.
