Splurging in LA/Santa Monica

Am going with my sister in law in March for 4 days to see niece in LA. She is at school at USC for semester- We want to go splurge. Was thinking of a splitting time between hotels in Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.
The Beverly Hills Hotel for at least one night. Where else in Beverly Hills or in Santa Monica. Can get dal at Le Merigot? Or Thanks for your help.

My husband has stayed at Le Merigot a few times on business and he raves about it! The only drawback is that all of the rooms don't have an ocean view, even though it is right on the beach. If I am not mistaken, it is next door to the Loews.
What is dal?

The Peninsula in Beverly Hills would be a splurge hotel. Casa del Mar in Santa Monica is really pricey as well, and quite a bit nicer than Le Mérigot (which is very nice indeed, but a little lacking in curb appeal from Ocean Ave.). The Fairmont Miramar in SM is historic and wonderful, but if you want to spend REAL money, Casa del Mar.

Or if you want to REALLY spend beaucoup bucks for a hotel experience you won't forget: The Montage Resort & Spa way down in south Laguna Beach:
