Southern NY State Estate House Restaurant
I heard about a Restaurant called, Harolds, near a town called Carmel in NY State (I can't dind a listing for this town or the restaurant) - I am new to the NY-Metro area and I heard reservations are essential - it is prix-fixe and worth every cent - the night begins with cocktails in a garden, a chance to review the menu and when dinner is served you are esscorted into the estate and seated - does this sound familar to anyone???

Harrald's in Stormville is everything you've heard and more. Harrald is actually the owner and his wife is the chef! He is well into his seventies and still participates daily. He comes to your table and explains each special on the menu. Many items are grown or raised on the property which is beautiful in itself. We try to go back at least once a year as a special treat to ourselves. If you enjoy fine dining, don't miss it!

The man who was telling this story was there about 10 years ago - his memory was so loving I thought what a wonderful concept in dining - he said, when he and his wife arrived they were escorted to a table in the yard where appetizers were served and cocktails could be ordered. In time, they were brought menus, and after ordering, and offered more drinks and appetizers, when their meal was ready, they were escorted into the estate and seated for dinner - the service was outstanding as was the meal - he was uncertain as to the town but Carmel or Lake Carmel is what he remembered. I checked Zagat and found nothing and knew someone here would know...Zagats describs Harralds as a German restaurant, is that so?
