There are a couple of Best Westerns in Laguna Beach, we like the Laguna Reef, it is right across the street from a beautiful stretch of beach. The Hotel Laguna is also in your price range and is right on the beach, guests have their own private beach here, it is on Main Beach. we stayed here over the 4th of July weekend this year. Two nice restaurants at Hotel Laguna also and a nice courtyard area. Have fun! ***kim***

I second the California

I recently stayed at the Best Western Las Brisas in Laguna and it is right across from the Surf and Sand. I would recommend it for someone looking to be in Laguna and have a decent price point. The rooms were actually very nice.

You will have a hard time finding beachside lodging at that price point, even in October.

Marina del Rey is just that, a marina, (the largest small-craft marina in the U.S.) with no proper beach. There is a waterfront property called the Foghorn Inn, www.foghornhotel.com, which is within your budget, but just know that it is not on a beach.

Close to, but not on the water:
In Playa del Rey: www.innatplayadelrey.com/
In Manhattan Beach: www.theseaviewinn.com/index.htm
In Redondo Beach: www.bestwestern-sunrise.com/

There are also marina-front, non beach properties in Redondo Beach (Portofino), San Pedro (Doubletree), that might have specials at that time. All of these are closer to Long Beach than Santa Monica.

The Sea View Inn in Manhattan Beach should fill your bill. The rates start at $150 a night for a Deluxe room. It is 5 buildings located around Highland and Rosecrans Ave. Just drive four miles straight down Highland/Vista del Mar and you are inn Play del Rey, so you can visit with your friends. Wonderful beach town, with shops and restaurants.

I agree with Ivk and MBnancy. Close friends of mine have stayed at the Sea View Inn and had a wonderful time. Of course, their kids were less than thrilled walking uphill from the beach, but you can't beat the location.
