South Florida water temp in mid January

Hi...we've got a trip planned for mid January that will include a couple of days in South Beach, Biscayne National Park, Key West and Dry Tortugas. Would like to be able to swim and snorkel during some of this time. Can someone tell me from experience, how the water temperatures in these areas are in mid January.

Thanks,
mc

Depending upon where you are, the water temp should be around 70-75 degrees. I've swam in the ocean in the keys in January and as long as the air temps are okay, the water temp didn't bother me.

Many pools in South Florida and Key West are heated.

You are quite welcome. It is a really informative site - though folks should keep in mind that these temps are those registered at offshore buoys, so the temps at the beaches (where the water is shallower) are probably a few degrees warmer (due to solar heating) - I would guess from 1 - 5 degrees warmer.

If you're worried about water temperature and being cold, consider renting a wet suit. I don't think it would be too expensive to rent just the suit and you'd be (so to speak) covered.

We have snorkled in February in the keys, and just rented wet suits ,as the water was too cold. I can't remember the price but it was reasonable.

miquel, you asked me in another thread where Davids II Cuban restaurant and there are two. One is on the corner of Washington and Meridian. Or maybe Meridian and Lincoln Road. Hmmn. Somewhere close.
