South Dakota to Yellowstone

We are flying into Rapid City SD and staying 3-4 nights. We plan on renting a car one way to Boise ID.
We will be stopping at Yellowstone for about 4 days. We are looking for advice on car rental, route and order of what to see in Yellowstone. After leaving Yellowstone we will be driving to Boise to stay with family for another 5 days. Thank you for any advice you can give!!

Where are you coming from and have you priced the one way rental? What month is this trip?
Could you fly to a Montana airport and make it a loop returning where you rented?
Can your Boise family meet you in Yellowstone?

Is pktraveler a one and done?
If you are traveling from Rapid City to Cody WY, plan on a stop at Devil's Tower in NE Wyoming.

I recommend a stop in Thermopolis; buffalo, thermal features, a great dinosaur museum and more!

It's a shame to go to Yellowstone and not have a day or 2 for the Tetons. If at all possible I would spend a little time there. It's just spectacular! Four nights for Yellowstone is good. Do you have lodging set? I would split the lodging between at least 2 places. It is a huge park and i wouldn't want to spend too much time driving back to one lodge every day. Maybe 2 at Old Faithful/2 at Canyon (or 2 OF, 1 canyon, 1 Roosevelt (for a rustic stay close to wildlife viewing).
